To install the webcam ( you must have an active internet connection ):
1) - We do all from terminal
2) - When the system ask you for password, give your user password, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter
Open a terminal from Applications-
sudo aptget update; sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install camorama build-essential gspca-source linux-headers-
cd /usr/src
sudo tar -xjvf gspca-source.
cd /usr/src/
sudo make
sudo make install
modprobe gspca
camorama
If your cam color are no good open the: /etc/modprobe.
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.
and add this row at the end of file:
options gspca force_rgb=1
add the module gspca at the end of /etc/modules file, type:
sudo gedit /etc/modules
add a row at the end of file and type:
gspca
Save and exit and reboot your pc reopen Camorama from menu: Applications-
Hope this help

For english speaking people:
Which Ubuntu release?
Please try this:
- disconnect webcam
- launch dmesg command on a terminal window
- connect webcam
- launch dmesg command on ANOTHER terminal window
- post here the lines added in second dmesg output

marco@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get v4l-conf
E: Operazione non valida v4l-conf
marco@ubuntu:~$ sudo v4l-info

sudo apt-get v4l-conf -> sudo apt-get install v4l-conf
English: By disconnecting webcam, /dev/video0 disapears or not?

marco@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get v4l-conf -> sudo apt-get install v4l-conf

Volevo dire che avresti dovuto scrivere "sudo apt-get install v4l-conf" invece di "sudo apt-get v4l-conf"

ls: /dev/video*: Nessun file o directory
e idem quando è scollegata
marco@ubuntu:~$ ls -la /dev/video*
ls: /dev/video*: Nessun file o directory
mettendo nel terminale quel che suggerivi ottengo:
marco@ubuntu:~$ lsmod | grep gspca
gspca 608336 0
videodev 29312 1 gspca
usbcore 138632 4 gspca,ehci_

I have trust USB cam (not sure about the model). However, its blue light is working (indicating that the cam is working), however easycam2 doesn't recognize it.
Can you help with this problem?
Provide an answer of your own, or ask Marco for more information if necessary.
