Configuring Toshiba notebook satellite A215-S4767

Asked by jmedeiros

Hi,
i got some problems with my satellite A215-S4767, and i got some problems (that toshiba is not able to trobleshoot them :), or maybe don't want it):
- Fingerprint reader
- i.LINKTM IEEE-1394
- Microphone built-in into LCD Bezel
- Very bad resolution for Webcam built-in into LCD Bezel (when working with aMSN)
- Atheros 802.11 b/g wireless-LAN

I need some guidance to solve this problems, finding and installing the needed drivers.

Thanks for all!

If someone got more drivers for this notebook, or any note related to this, please, help me too.

I have forgot to inform that my Ubuntu release is 7.10 x86_64

Could you paste here the result of running the "lspci" command in the terminal? This will tell us precisely what hardware and what revisions you have installed.

Ok, let's start with the wireless network adapter. Usually, the Atheros card should work very well with some restricted drivers installed. Have you tried running the Restricted Drivers Manager in System/Administration? If this doesn't work, try the command sudo apt-get install linux-restricted-modules-`uname -r`

For the rest, we'd also need you to paste here the result of the lsusb and lsmod commands (if any of the devices you have issues with need to be plugged, plug them in before running the commands).

Hi,
i have executed the Restricted Drivers Managers, but it jus showed me the ATI related drivers. I tried to execute de "apt-get ..." as you suggested, but the result is:

# apt-get install linux-restricted-modules-`uname -r`

Hi,
i wanto correct my last assessment:
"I can see in Restricted Drivers Manager the reference to the Atheros hardware, and it is enabled too in my notebook. But i am not able to access any wireless network, and i can't see the wireless option in network-admin. Even executing the iwconfig, the result is:

:~$ iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

Sorry for not coming back to you on this sooner.

For the wireless, try following the instructions there: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=485579

It shouldn't have been necessary, but if your issue wasn't resolved by the restricted-modules manager, this might do it.

For the rest of the hardware, I am afraid I don't know anything about them. You might wanna search the ubuntu forums for people with the same hardware as you do.

Good luck!
