Can't change resolution in a i740 video card

I have Diamond G460 agp vga card with a i740 chip and 8MB of VRAM. I cann't change resolution although xserver recognises the card correctly. I updated xorg package and still nothing. Any ideas?

I didn't do what the howto said, I just reinstalled ubuntu with the alternate cd and voila screen resolution fixed. I don't know if it is a bug in the desktop cd but now I have a fully working workstation.
