How to set up Novatel Ovation U727 Mobile Broadband USB modem in Ubuntu

Asked by Eric Pan

I am a Ubuntu newbie and have no idea how to get my Novatel Ovation U727 Broadband USB modem to connect to the internet. I followed the instructions from the Sprint website for Linux, but I am stuck at the kppp part. It says I have to install or load it somehow from the add/remove menu, but both programs I need to load say they will not work with i386. If this is making any sense to anyone, or you know how to install these modems I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi,

Please try this setup guide, which is up-to-date and provided by Sprint:

http://www.sprint.com/assets/downloads/linux/pdfs/Sprint_Mobile_broadband_Setup_Guide_for_Linux.pdf

It should work in Ubuntu 8.04 or Ubuntu 8.10.

Hope it helps,

Regards,

Mark

This device has problems on 9.04 as well. It worked immediately out-of-the-box the one day but now it is mounted as a USB storage device (so no Internet).

Can you help with this problem?
