Cannot install or remove software using synaptic or Ubuntu software center.

Various members have tried to help. Basically when I try to either remove software using synaptic or Ubuntu software center I get error messages and the process fails to complete. I try to do updates and that also fails. I tried to remove Virtualbox and received error messages. Examples of error and output message below.

Fabio thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately that did not work. I still cannot remove or add software using the terminal, synaptic or software center. Any other ideas.

I tired to remove virtualbox in the software center and received the error message below

I have the same problem (with postinst.d:1010). When I get to "sudo apt-get autoremove" as suggested it outputs:

I had had issues with a /usr restore that had not correctly restored setuid flags (for su and sudo). Perhaps that's related.

moving these out and re-running fixed my issue. This seems to be caused by my /usr restore using Back In Time, but would indicate that having extraneous duplicate files will break things.
