7.10 installation leaves my 80GIG HD with only 37 GIG of free space.

Asked by Garey

I have just installed 7.10 Ubuntu (replacing 6.10 Ubuntu) on my 80 GIG HD but only 37 GIGs show as being available. I have no personal files on my HD. Is this perhaps because 6.10 is still hiding in there?

run gparted and see if you have any partitions hiding in there

Thank you Sidarth. This running of gparted showed that my HD did indeed have 37+GIGs of unused space on a hidden partition. I couldn't "shrink" the partition successfully so I reformated my hard disk. Your comments were most appreciated.
