How to install to hardware RAID 5

Asked by bdlamprecht

I am trying to install Ubuntu 6.06 onto a brand new system. It has a Intel SATA RAID controller and I have enabled the RAID portion in the BIOS to create one large arrary, however, whenever I try and boot ubuntu, the individual drives are listed, not the large array. What am I doing wrong?

I might add that this is on an Intel chipset with AHCI enabled. Suggestions?

Only a comment: Intel SATA Raid is Software RAID (Do not have XOR engine) not Hardware RAID.

Raid is something of a black art to me although I've had some success. One thing I've learned is to put the /boot (100MB I think is plenty) in a partition outside of the MDx container. Good luck!
