I'm having problems trying to install java

Asked by anthony0261

Hi, I'm new to Ubuntu and I need help installing java as I like to play games that run using java. When I try to install from the Firefox Plug-in Finder, I get an error saying that there are broken packages. I also get a similar error when trying to install from Synaptic Package Manager. I have also tried using the following command in the terminal: sudo apt-get install sun-java6-plugin which presents me with an error message:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
sun-java6-plugin: Depends: sun-java6-bin (= 6-03-0ubuntu2) but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

Any help will be appreciated, thanks

Hi,

Im using Automatix2 for installing Java.
http://www.getautomatix.com/

This program includes some new apt repositories into your /etc/apt/sources.list or install programs from binaries.
With automatics you can also easy install some other useful programs like Google Earth or Vmware.

Trying to install in synaptic gave me a hung install window. [sun-java6-bin] Hitting ^C in the details window gave me the `will break your system' message, then I got the sun licence agreement to sign. Could this be the glitch? [Running Karmic, updated yesterday [30/10/09]

Can you help with this problem?
