Installation Display Problem

Asked by Daniel gillespie

I am trying to install Ubuntu 7.10 Desktop on a computer and I am having a problem where the Ubuntu screen comes up I select Install/Boot Ubuntu. A screen flashes across saying "Starting Linux Kernel". Then theres a Ubuntu screen with a bar going back in forth which then changes to a solid bar. That screen clears but then the screen flashes and my monitor starts looking for a signal and wont detect one coming from the computer. The computer is still running and I can see the CD Drive Usage light flashing. When I shut it down using CTRL - ALT - DELETE the monitor comes back on with a few lines of text and messages about the computer aborting processes in order to shut down.

I have a Radeon X1600 Pro graphics card which i have attached to my monitor using a DVI cable.

Try to use VGA cable first, if possible.

I managed to install Ubuntu using the alternate install disk but I cant get into Ubuntu because of the same problem.

The graphic card I am using only has dual DVI Outputs. I also to test it ran a VGA cable into the onboard graphics card with no luck.

I managed to fix my problem by configuring xserver using the command :sudo dpkg-configure xserver-xorg
