install fails with Not supported video 83Khz

Asked by Serge Schongut

Hello,
I am new to Ubuntu and installed today EdUbuntu Live CD Install on my IBM ThinkCenter (Pentium 4 3000).
Installed as sole OS: it went smoothly but on first boot after the Ubuntu splash screen I receive a 'not supported Video 83Khz' message after which the screen remains black.
I cannot remember having set the Display refresh rate during setup.
Thanks by advance on any hint how to correct this ???

Hi Ali,
Thanks for the swift answer.
I have tried a few times pressing (Ctrl+) Ctrl with + during and at end of boot sequence to no avail.

If no solution I will have to redo the whole install and hope for the best

Thanks for any pointers,

Serge

when ubuntu fully loaded press CTRL+ALT+F2 (you can also use F3, F4, F5, F6). you will see a login screen. login typing your username and password and run these commands:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install 915resolution

and reboot pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del

i hope this works

Sorry, still no joy,
System booted up completely:
Pressing Alt+F2 brought me to command line where I entered the 2 sudo commands.
After reboot it still showed the 'not supported video 83khz' message.
Repressing the Alt/F5 shows the login prompt request at command line.
I could enter my login Name but when prompted to enter my password the insert entry prompt did not move forward with the intyping which results in wrong password message .
All this happens at command line I still cannot access the Gui.
Regards,
Serge Schongut

try to select the right driver with this command:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
