plz help me i have modem and ISP issues

i recently added a question about ISP's for Ubuntu and i am still wondering what to do because i use because i have dial up and i've connected my lines and so click on the 'network' icon on the desktop and i go down to 'dial-up connections' and that has a menu so i click on 'connect to ppp0 via modem' and that doesn't do nothing not even a prompt I would appreciate if some one would help me sort this out.

Please tell us your modem model and brand...
Is that modem an external modem...
If it is an external modem, are your modem led blinking...

If your modem seems connected...

Please open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type:

sudo ifconfig -a

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

how do i get linux on broadband i have tesco broadband but they dont support ubunto
