Can't install with NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 Graphics Card?

I have an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 graphics card and I'm trying to install Ubuntu. I try loading the OS in Safe Graphics mode first but that doesn't work either, no matter what I do I just end up with a black screen. Can I never install Ubuntu on this machine or do you think maybe my Live CD is corrupt? Any suggestions? Thanks.
