turning laptop numlock off = wrong keys

Asked by Travis Swaim

on Asus 1001PX, Fn+numlock turns on numbers OK. But when pressed again instead of going back to letters, it uses the arrow and home/end, PgUp/PgDn features of a standard 104 keyboard. My keyboard seems to be mapped wrong. Is there a laptop/netbook keyboard layout that fixes this?

This is not the same as the mouse keys, I've tried that and mouse keys toggles fine.

All my other FN+ keys seem to work fine; vol+-, screen bright, CRT/LCD, wireless.

using Ubuntu 11.10

Is it the same in Precise live CD?

Sorry, It's a netbook without a CD-Rom. I downloaded the ISO (ubuntu-11.10-desktop-i386) and put it on a flash drive using USB installer (PenDriveLinux.com).

I 'll try rebooting using the flash drive and see.

I didn't catch the Precise at first. I'm currently downloading the new ISO, and will try out the newest version.

Seems to work correctly under Precise.

When is the release version due out?

Secondly, how hard is it to install over a previous version? I've only done fresh installs of linux, but I'd like to keep these settings. Especially my home folder.

I have an asus 901ha, and when you have plugged in a full size keyboard , numlock tends to switch on, try pressing the fn key plus f11 and seeing if this fixes your issue

Its out in April 2012 but is in alpha2 rigt now. I run it here and it's not bad at all. If you can handle it then I'd say install it. Sounds like the kernel and drivers are needed by your hardware to work.
