cannot load ubuntu 7.04

Asked by ron

I'm attempting to install a new CD ordered w/ Ubuntu 7.10 on a AMD Athlon processor based computer running Windows 2000 professional.
I want to install this version on a 2nd hard drive which is empty and setup as slave. It is recognized by the windows os as a 2nd hard drive.
When I insert and bootup this CD, it gives me the menu w/ all the options. I want to install the program on the 2nd hard drive but after selecting the install option, the screen shows the symbol scrolling back and forth for a few minutes and then I get the following message on the screen:
[188.004000] HDC: Timeout waiting for DMA
[188.004000] HDC; Drive not ready for command

and then it just keeps repeating the same 2 messages periodically.

I looked at all the other options in the Boot menu but it always gave me the same results.
I'd appreciate any help on this install problem so I can begin to use the latest version.

Could you elaborate more on the 'nod ma kernel boot option'? Like what it means and how to implement this after the F6 key is used?
I accessed the Bootup page, but there is no direct reference to this particular command?
Thanks for any further assistance.

Hi Ron,

What the marcobra's link above suggests you do is the following:
1. Boot off the cd. When you get to the main menu, press f6
2. F6 will have put a single line of text at the bottom of the screen, which ends in "quiet splash --"
3. (This is my addition to marcobra's recommendation) Backspace over the 'quiet splash --' part, but leave the rest of the line there
4. Type in nodma
5. Press enter.

Contained in that link are some screen shots if you need some additional help

Can you help with this problem?
