configuring internet in ubuntu 7.10

i have installed ubuntu 7.10 in compaq presario v 2000 notebook. i im not able to open web pages though both dns
and ip are pinging.im using airtell broadband connection to connect to the internet. i have configured internet as follows:
use static ip adress:
ip 192.168.1.2
subnet 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.1.1
but i can not add dns . ihave used ubuntu 6.06 lts there was no such problem.
please help me as soon as possible............................................................................................

hi sriniwas

open System->Administrator->Network then locate the DNS tab in the Network Settings. click Add to setup your DNS and click Return key. DNS shoud be set.

no this is not the solution of my problem. im still facing problem in poening web pages.

I think that is only a DNS issue please open System->Administrator->Network then locate the DNS tab in the Network Settings.
Then click Add to add DNS, put here the OpenDNS values: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

If you have a DHCP assigned address: please open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type:

sudo gedit /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Change the prepend line to read:

prepend domain-name-servers 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220;

save and exit and restart your newortk:

sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

Try to configure your network device as dhcp may solve your issue.
