installed twice - now i have 2 50 gig ubuntus?

Asked by listats

I installed Ubuntu and then there were some problems so I installed it again; however, I now have 2 separate partitiona, each with a full installation, and neither are acessible from one another

Is there any way to at least access one partition from the other>>

or, better yet, to combine the first into the second??

Could you provide some information about your configuration?
What is your root partition? hda1? sda1?
Which filesystem did you select during installation? ReiserFS? Ext3?

When you are logged into Ubuntu (Either one) run the command
$fstab

This will give you the filesystem table for the currently used OS. Make a note of the partitions they are on. (hda1 etc)

Now use a partition tool like gparted (you may have to install it first) and reformat the other partition with Ubuntu on it to a ext3 drive.

You are now free to mount and use the newly formatted drive.

Try using the Gparted LiveCd to delete one partition and expand the other to fill it's place. Keep in mind partitions can only be expanded to the right.
