my launchpad icons have vanished!!!

Asked by Ubuntu User

The 4 x task switcher (?) icons in the bottom right corner of my taskbar have disappeared!!!

pew@pew-desktop:~$ sudo -i
Password:
root@pew-desktop:~# sudo apt-get install gnome-app-install
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
gnome-app-install is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
root@pew-desktop:~#

I am very confused!!!
I am a **newbie at UBUNTU** and I have only been using it for about 1 week!!!!!!!

I am trying to put back on the taskbar the 4 x launchpad icons.

I was advised as follows:

right click empty space in your panel,
choose "Add to Panel" and then
"Workspace Switcher" under the "Desktop + Windows" heading

the problem is that I ***do not*** see the "Workspace Switcher".

eg it is missing. Can someone please explain to me, nicely, how to get the "Workspace Switcher" to come back.

Never mind. I see it now.

You just have to add a comment and then, if you were the original submitter, you can check the box next to "Support Request is answered".

One final question, is there a way to say who answered the question?

Yes, all your requests are list at:
https://launchpad.net/people/linuxactivist/+createdtickets

Once you mark your request as answered, the name of the person who answered it, will appear.

Jim, could you please take a screenshot? We could create a wiki page with some useful information about support requests.

I have created a simple page concerning this. You can find it here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SupportRequests
Feel free to add new stuff and fix my errors!

Luca,

It looks fantastic! Great job.

Do you know if there is a way to close the ticket as answered by a specific commenter?

I have been trying to encourage people to close old tickets, but I don't want all the credit for the work that other put in.

Suggestions?

I am going to close this as answered and hope that you add that section to the wonderful wiki page.

Nice working with you.

It seems to be a flaw in launchpad that you can't assign the answerer credit for the questions that they answered.

Thanks :D

I noticed this behaviour too. It seems the first user who posts a comment is the one who actually answered the support request. I am not sure if this is a bug or a to-do-feature, but we could file a new bug/specification in order to implement this in the next releases of launchpad. What do you think about?

I think it needs to be added. As karma is given for an answered question,
and general bragging rights, it seems only fair that the user should be able
to select from a list of people that commented on the ticket.

Perhaps they could have more than one person as well.

New bug filed. If you can add some informations or to confirm it, we could get this implemented soon (or at least I hope so).

Please don't modify existing threads on launchpad. It becomes very
confusing as to what the original problem was. Instead, either create a new
request for help or add comments to an existing thread.

Were you the original submitter of bug 1842?

If not, this may be a bug in launchpad.

Please submit your problem as a new request for assitance.

If you did, and this just happens, I think you exposed a problem with
launchpad (the online website used for support, bug tracking, and
translation services by the Ubuntu community).

When (if) you create a new request for support, you probably don't want to
use "Launchpad" in the summary as it will be confused with the website. You
are having problems with the workplace switcher.

Pardon me not "bug 1842," but "support request or question 1842".
