Totem open but does not work ever

It says:
"Você não tem um decodificador instalado para tratar este arquivo. Você pode ter que instalar os módulos necessários."

I am searching, I see lots of information but I haven't find the simple solutions to where to find those codecs that is need...

I do not work with technology or maths, my fields are music , literature and contemporary arts.

You probably need to install codec that are not open source, or under patents. This page might help to get them: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats

While it may not be explicity obvious from the https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats, the way to install the packages is to open a terminal (Applications --> Accessories --> Terminal) and then type

sudo apt-get install <package name>

Where package-name is one of the packages in the lists on the RestrictedFormats page.

If you have enabled the Universe and Multiverse repositories (there are instructions linked from the RestrictedFormats page) in Ubuntu, getting the codecs to work should just be a simple matter of running the "sudo apt-get install" command for each package, in turn, that is listed on that page.

Note that if you are less comfortable with the terminal, you may also use synaptic to install the packages.

However, it is by far going to be quicker just to use the command line to install them in sequence as Jim described.
