No Volume Control
I recently upgraded to 6.06 from 5.10, when I try to access the volume control I get the error listed below.
No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found
To my knowlegde I have volume control installed on the system, I installed all the updates and packages for this
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm pretty new to Linux
Thanks

You might try following the steps on the RestrictedFormats page, just to make sure that you have all the parts needed for full multi-media to work in Ubuntu.
It may be overkill, but it should grab whatever is missing along the way.
While it isn't explicity obvious from the https:/
sudo apt-get install <package name>
Where package-name is one of the packages in the lists on the RestrictedFormats page.
If you have enabled the Universe and Multiverse repositories (there are instructions linked from the RestrictedFormats page) in Ubuntu, getting the codecs to work should just be a simple matter of running the "sudo apt-get install" command for each package, in turn, that is listed on that page.
If these comments helped, please consider closing the ticket as answered.
If not, let us know and we'll keep troubleshooting the problem for you.

I installed all the packages that are listed on the page, now I thinking Ubuntu isnt reading that theres a sound card present, this has only happened after I upgraded to 6.6

Problem solved I reinstalled everything and rebooted, the sound is working fine
Thanks for your help
You can check to see if Ubuntu is still seeing your sound card by skimming through the Device Manager (System --> Administration --> Device Manager).
Do you see a sound card listed?
What do you see when you check out your sound preferences (System --> Preferences --> Sound)? Is it checked to enable ESD sound mixing? Is there a sound card listed under the Default Sound Card?
Does anyone else watching this thread know how to make ubuntu rescan for or rediscover hardware? I did some quick searches on Google and came up empty handed.

I am having the same problem as Dinger_ca, and I followed the steps suggested. It was looking pretty good for a while, but I am still not able to get it working. In sound preferences, there is no default sound card listed, and the drop-down menu is empty. Help?
