X server problem with new Nvidia driver inatallation

Asked by Avinash M

I installed nvidia-glx-new drivers due to a version mismatch between restricted drivers(version 1.0-9755) and nvidia-glx drivers(1.0-9631)
After I did a sudo nvidia-xconfig, x server failed to start and i get the following error

"Failed to Load 'wfb' (module does not exist,0)
NVIDIA(0): need libwfb but wfbScreenInit not found"

so you say your graphics card worked before just fine with the nvidia drivers coming along with ubuntu 7.04?

The Graphics drivers still work fine with the "nv " drivers.
If I run sudo dpkg-reconfigure-phigh xserver-xorg and select nv drivers from the list they still work.
However my opengl applications do no run with these driver -- and because of this,I attempted to update the drivers

i think the 8800GTX is not supported by the version of nvidia-glx that comes with feisty.

i would recommend using nv. then upgrade to gutsy and then give the nvidia-glx a new try...

I used Alberto milone's ENVY, and the Xserver is now working fine with nvidia-glx-new drivers
