How can I mount webdav (Mac iDisk) share in Gutsy?

Asked by Jeffrey Kennett

I'm on week number 3 of learning my way around Ubuntu. I have a Mac iDisk share that the documentation says should be accessible from linux that supports webdav. I am able to see the files in Firefox just fine when I type in the http://idisk.mac.com/myusername. I get prompted for the login name and password and it then presents a web page with the files and I can download and upload from there.

It occurs to me that I should be able to access it through the file system so I have easy access to drag and drop files. I downloaded (using synaptic) something called 'davfs' which I thought would do what I want. And it still may. The problem is that once it installed that was it. I have NO clue how to invoke it and get to my webdav folder.

I have also tried using that 'connect to server' and changing the service type to webdav. Nothing happens when I try that.

I'm guessing this is one of those things that I need to use the terminal for but I don't have the skills yet. I don't even really know what it is that I don't know. LOL.

After entering your details in "Connect to Server", do you get an entry for the server in your Places menu?

Murat,
Boy am I a newbie or what? You are correct. My iDisk is right there under Places.

I look forward to the day when I can be a contributor in this community. Until then, I'll keep learning.

Thank you so much for your help.

You're welcome. There's a bug about the behavior of "Connect to Server"; I've linked this question to it.

Hi , I tried to find a way to setup a davfs permanent mount graphically. right now I couldn't in ubuntu. It's easy on Kubuntu.

"Connect to server" Miss an option to specify a Mount Point ( and create it ) with sudo access.

Davfs2 could then be easily installed and user & group automatically adjusted.

the mount point could then be added to /etc/fstab

On my machine it's still not mounted automatically at boot for an unknow reason , maybe authentification .

is there a launchpad Bug associated with this missing feature ?
