Can connect to VPN from VMware but NOT from Ubuntu gutsy

Asked by etereo

I want to make a VPN connection to another office. But so far all my attempts of doing so in Ubuntu gutsy failed.

I installed the network-manager-pptp plugin and follow all the steps. My first issue was that the VPN option in the network systray icon wasn't showing (Fixed that one with this https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/15891). Then I configured the VPN but it wouldn't connect saying: "Could not start the VPN connection 'TestVPN' due to a connection error. VPN connection failed"

Then yesterday, just for kicks, I tried connecting from a VMware running Windows 2000 (running in my same Ubuntu gutsy) and it worked 100% first try.

:S ?!

I guess that means it's not an IP problem since I can connect from the same PC running VMware. So it must be a configuration issue. But the setup is super easy: PPTP, ipAddress, username, password

Anybody have a clue?

I was having the same problem. Disabling Firestarter seemed to allow the VPN connection to work.
