Error during Ubuntu 7.10 Installation in Low Memory Mode

Asked by Teleios

Hi!

I am trying to install Ubuntu 7.10 (I'm new in Ubuntu universe) booting from CD-ROM in a i386 PC with the following characteristics:

- CPU: AMD K6 II 300 MHz.
- 48 MB RAM.
- 3 GB HDD with a partition destinated for Linux (where I want to install it).

The CD integrity is OK, but in the step "Loading aditional components", when the progress bar take almost 55% the screen becomes BLACK and the system doesn't respond anymore, but at the end of the screen a cursor bar keeps lighting.

I have tried changing the memories cards but the problem persists.

Could you help me with it?

Thank you!

Best Regards,

Alejandro

Are you using the Desktop CD? Graphic install shoul be used only on computers with more than 256mb of RAM. It's not your case. If so, you have to use the Alternate install CD. It uses the debian instaler that features a false graphic mode. Don't worry, it's not difficult. I have a pentium 4 with 256mb of RAM and used the alternate CD too. If you have partitioned you HD before, you won't find any problens.

Hope it helped.

Thank you for your help!

I'm using the Alternate CD, for Desktop as well.

But it seems to me to be a problem with memory.

What do you think?

Regards!

Thank you Marcobra.

I have tried so, and that's the problem.

With 128 MB RAM it works.
