try unpluggin the device then replugging it in. If it doesn't start working, run:

sudo modprobe rt2870

Does it then work?

Then you will need ndisgtk and use the Windows drivers, obviously grab the 64bit Windows drivers if your OS is 64Bit

Hi,

I suggest following the instructions from forumuser eteq, BUT with a slight modification to the following instructions:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1493253&page=3

In almost every command in that procedure, he mentions ProductID 845a , which refers to his specific wireless adapter model.

Please replace 845a with 945a in each command, because eteq is using a different wireless adapter that needs the same wireless driver as your wireless adapter.

For example:

The following configuration line

ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="050d", ATTR{idProduct}=="845a", RUN+="/sbin/modprobe -qba r8192s_usb"

should be replaced with

ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="050d", ATTR{idProduct}=="945a", RUN+="/sbin/modprobe -qba r8192s_usb"

in eteq's instructions.

Then reboot and retest wireless.

Hope this helps,

Mark

Forget my previous remarks :-)

The best advice is given here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1522815

So the solution should be this:

Install Ubuntu 11.10.

Install the linux-firmware package.

Reboot.

Then it should be solved thanks to the new r8712u driver (kernel module) in recent Ubuntu kernels.

I installed the ndisgtk after that under System>Administration>Windows Wireless Drivers > Currently Installed Windows Drivers i can see the net8192su (Hardware resent:yes) but the Device is not turning ON and it is not fetching the network available in my school.

Just in case you are not (totally) familiar yet with package managers in Ubuntu:

After installing Ubuntu 11.10, make sure to run the following command in a Terminal:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install linux-firmware linux-firmware-nonfree

Then REBOOT and retest wireless.
