Wifi not working on by Fujitsu N3400

Asked by gary kuehn

I tried configuring the wireless manually. The router is configured with WPA enabled and TKIP which I replicated via the network configuration program. Result of iwconfig:

lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

eth1 unassociated ESSID:""
          Mode:Managed Channel=0 Access Point: Not-Associated
          Bit Rate:0 kb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm Sensitivity=8/0

          Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
After going through many forum postings I am not sure if I should start with attempting to install a new ipw2200BG driver. What other diagnostics can I perform to steer me towards the appropriate solution?

Thanks
Gary

Are you able to connect to an unencrypted or one with a WEP HEX key?

Billy,

Thank you for the follow up. I am not sure what I did differently but between the Live session and a HD install their seems to be differences in behavior. After going through the manual configuration again (with a proper HD installation) I was able to get the wireless talking to the router. An IP was properly assigned and it looks like I am almost done. I still need to pull off the hard line and check true wireless operations.

Hi !

normally, this card is perfectly supported by linux.

What do you mean by "manually" ?

please post here your /etc/network/interfaces file

Olivier,

I have SSID Broadcast disabled. With the Live CD wireless defaulted to roaming. Every time I went into the configuration for wireless I was unable to establish connectivity. Once I performed an HD installation things seemed to work differently. All I can assume at this juncture is operator error on my part while setting the various attributes. I can’t figure out what I was doing incorrectly but I am very pleased that it is now operational. I had the opportunity to test the wireless network for the better part of an hour without any issues.

I don't have the laptop with me at the moment. If you are still interested in the interface file I'll post it later.
Thanks
Gary
