Developing applications

Asked by Michael68000

I am an electronics engineer/embedded programmer and I have just loaded Ubuntu on to an old PC as a learning exercise. Everything seems to work fine and I would like to write some code but I can't find any reference to compilers or IDEs anywhere.

What do I need to get started ?

there are quite a few different methods of coding applications on free software systems, if you like IDE's you might want to try out anjuta or kdevelop or eclipse.

generally the GNU compiler tools are used to compile applications, you can get these by installing build-essential
