GNOME (Gutsy): simple strings not translated to german?

Asked by Jonas H

My GNOME (Ubuntu Gutsy) isn't fully translated to german. I don't care but i wondered if it's a bug.
There are many simple strings like "unsafe device remove", or "leave message" (screensaver), that aren't translated so they appear in english.
So I'd like to ask if that's normal, cause i cannot imagine why those primitve strings weren't translated by anyone yet.

Greets,
Dauerbaustelle

Thanks for your question.

First you can check if you have all the translations installed on your system. The gnome packages are "language-pack-gnome-de" and "language-pack-gnome-de-base". The meta package "language-support-de" makes usually sure that all packages are installed.

Translations sometimes lag a little behind in the busy release schedule. We appreciate if you take the time and either look at Rosetta if the string is not translated and if you like you can do that (https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/). Or you can file a bug(s) for the missing translations (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/).

Hope this helps.
