Ubuntu LiveCD can't boot on Dell Optiplex G1

I have a Ubuntu 7.10 live cd that i'm trying to run on a Windows 98 Dell Optiplex G1.

I get to the ubuntu boot options, then i go into start or install ubuntum in safe graphics, I see the orange load bar thing, then it goes to an all beige screen with only the mouse, and freezes. I really need linux on this machine, because windows is very slow.

i got it to go to the desktop, but i could only see the top left corner of the desktop, and when I double click install, i don't see the window. can anybody explain how i could fix this? I'm using an emachines screen from another computer.

I tried restarting, and making the VGA into 840x600 w/ 16 bits, but when i click install, nothing happens

try an other distribution LIVE of linux (example Zenwalk ) to find if your hardware is support by linux....
