boot time is slowwww. is there a way to speed up my boot time so it boots up faster? thanks

If you are still using the Live CD - then no - the CD can only be as fast as the drive is.

If you are booting from the hard drive then the answers could be many.

Please submit more information about the computer being used.

mostly operating system, ram and hard drive used.

Also Ubuntu version.

typing "free -m" in a console window should show you your ram. 512 not too bad, but not too good either. But t should slow boot down that much. How much does it take to boot?

i went ahead and installed dreamlinux. it runs on an xfce desktop and is really fast. thanks for your help.
