Soundcard Philips PSC 706 Acoustic Edge not recognized in Ubuntu Gutsy

Asked by Rich

Hi!

I just installed Gutsy on my PC bought in 2002 and everything seems to work beautifully, apart from my soundcard Philips Acoustic Edge (PSC706).
Instead, ubuntu activated my onboard sound chip (VIA), which produces horrible sound, of course. I had a look around for Philips drivers for ubuntu or other Linux, but couldn't find any.
Does anybody know a work around for this problem? Maybe a way with which I could run the card with drivers from a different manufacturer or model? As far as I can tell, the card isn't even detected by ubuntu...
Any input will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Cheers!
