HP 820C Printer not working

Asked by GaryTX

I have Ubuntu 7.10 installed with latest updates. My HP 820C printer connected via parallel port is not responding to any printer command from my desktop. A search of bug reports from 2006 has a rather complex discussion of similar problems with the 820 and other HP printers. I looked at the /etc/pnm2ppa.conf file and uncommented the #version 820 line (removed #) using "sudo vi", but there was no change, even after reboot. The LPQ command shows "DESKJET_820C is ready". After attempting to print a file, I clicked on the printer icon at the top of my screen to show "Document Print Status". The file I attempted to print is still queued up, but status shown is "stopped". Any suggestions on what I can try?

Thanks for the question.

I would try installing it via the HPLIP toolkit. This toolkit allows it to very easy and userfriendly install printers (in particular HP printers). You can install it with your package manager if it is not already installed.

I hope this helps.

Can you help with this problem?
