Need a way to play Ultima Online free shards...

Asked by John Chalinder

I enjoy playing Ultima Online via the free shards. I usually play via either RunUO or ConnectUO.
The RunUO site says there is a version that works, but most of the links are broken. A friend of mine who also plays says the only version available is pretty buggy.
There are also rumors that a couple of people who worked for OSI (creators of Ultima Online, were working on a linux version of the game; but they seem to have quit OSI and moved to another gaming company, leaving the work unfinished. OSI doesn't seem to think there is enough revenue in the linux crowd to make it economically feasible to produce a linux interface.
I would be eternally grateful to anyone who can create a working interface for ubuntu that will allow me to play my favorite online game: Ultima Online.
Anyone interested in working on this, please contact me: <email address hidden>
I'll be happy to provide any and all information you need for the project. To the extent I am able, I would also be willing to provide limited financial incentive to defray any costs incurred along the way.
If you need a standard Ultima Online install disk (Mondain's Legacy), I'll be happy to send you a copy, or you can download it from UOstratics, the official UO website.

Thank You

John Chalinder

I'll give it a shot. Thanks.
I'm not quite sure what, of all the files listed on the site, I'll need.
But I'll figure it out in time.
If this doesn't work, I'll be back to repost the request for assistance.

John, I feel your enthusiasm for Ultima Online. It is indeed a truly amazing creation, with disregard to its development.

I would love to see a version of Ultime created for Ubuntu, as there are free versions of Civilization on Ubuntu. It would be a grand project, to create a massive multiplayer game with the same elements that exists in UO. If I were a competent programmer, I would begin right away! Sadly, I'm not.

Shame on the people who quited OSI and abandoned the linux run version of Ubuntu.
