Hi !

apparently, there is a problem with your graphic card : what model is it ?

But ubuntu 7.04 is not the latest version available. You should try the latest version of ubuntu (ie 7.10) , which you can get from http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Using this newer version may avoid any trouble

OK. this card being a rather recent one, I think you should definitely give ubuntu 7.10 a try.

Anyway, installing the latest version will bring you a more polished Desktop and with more features.

Happens with my 7600GT too but its not a problem, just wait for a while (You should see your CD-ROM Drive LED glowing) and the desktop will start up just fine. You can then install and there should be no such problems after installing.

Even if it works, I strongly advise you to use the latest version : why installing an outdated version ?

OK. Then, install Ubuntu from the safe graphic mode. I advise you to use several partitions :

one of around 10GB for /
   one of 1GB of swap
one for /home with the free space left

If you don't understand what I have just said, Tell me, I will give you more details

Are you manually partitioning? because that seems kind of hard to me lol, im like a noob to linux...

Yes I am. This is not compulsory. But this is a far more long term solution.

Do you have an other OS you want to keep on that computer ? Let's say windows for instance :-)

   OK.

So, backup all you data, then boot the liveCD

when you have the choice, choose to manually partition your drive. The partitions should be

one of around 10GB ext3, mounting point /
one for /home with the free space left ,ext3 (mounting point /home )
one of 1GB of swap (type swap)

when you think you have something like that, take a screenshot and make a link there

Can you help with this problem?
