Hi !

What is the OS you want to keep ?

Windows ?

What is your hard drive size ? how much free space ?

Yes you can, i usually do this.
If you have Windows make a backup of relevant data
Do a fully hard-disk check and a fully defrag
How many free space do you have on your hard disk...?

Hi !

This is totally possible as elart.it said make a backup of your data and defragment your disk.

Then, boot with the Ubuntu liveCD and launch the installation.

When asked about where to install ubuntu choose manual partitioning (This is harder than just letting the installer shrink the windows size for you but more effective solution)

shrink the windows partition at the size you wish (you can let 10 or 20 Go free)

then create 3 partitions :
one of around 10GB ext3, mounting point /
one for /home with the free space left ,ext3 (mounting point /home )
one of 1GB of swap (type swap)

Then feel free to link a screenshot here before going on, I will confirm you that you are not going to screw everything !

Ok that seems good. go on to the next step and try to make the partitions as I have advised you . then post the screenshot before going on

see here for a step by step for shrinking your windows partition

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowtoPartition

the rest is very similar : right-clic, new partition...

you can go ahead and try you won't loose anything : the modifs are not applied directly. but post a screenshot befor hitting next...

Can you help with this problem?
