Any modern GNU/Linux distribution supports a large number of devices and processors. If you are planning to buy a x86 or x86_64 processor (such as Intel or AMD) or PowerPC, Ubuntu is able to work without any trouble.

Supposing you buy the Asus EFA7 model (doesn't exist, I made it up), it's a good idea to search www.google.com/linux for "Asus EFA7" or "Asus EFA7 problems". Luca is right - nearly all the hardware is supported, but you can never be too sure. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsMotherboards contains a tremendously incomplete list of supported motherboards

If you want to be really sure, find out what chipset the motherboard has and google for that as well.

Can you help with this problem?
