dual boot install

Asked by codingfreak

Hi

I have got a copy of UBUNTU 6.10 Live CD (remember it is not an alternate edition) ... I want to install UBUNTU 6.10 in Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 but i face a problem where UBUNTU is 24bit while Virtual PC supports only 16bit.....

I have googled for it everyone says to change the /etc/X11/xorg.conf but i am not even able to install it using LIVE CD how can i change it ???

I thought of trying out in TEXT MODE but i am not able to get login into TEXT MODE during the time of installation.

Can i still install UBUNTU 6.10 using my LIVE CD which i got from UBUNTU in Virtual PC 2007??????

There are instructions on the following help docs page for both 2004 and 2007.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToConfigureUbuntuForMicrosoftVirtualPC2004

I would recommend that when you boot the CD, press F6 and add xforcevesa to the end of the kernel boot line options. It might be a little slower, but it will allow you to install and then you can edit the xorg.conf till you're satisfied.

Can you help with this problem?
