compiled xine problem in Gutsy

Asked by M.Riahi

Hi,
I have compiled and installed xine-1.1.8 and xine-ui. But it fails to run and when I execute xine --verbose it says that it can not find any video output plugin. I have dell inspiron 640m. This is some of its output:

Why don't you use the version included in the repositories ?

I didn't find xine library for Gutsy in any repositories. Would you please give me the instruction for installing the version in the repositories?
I don't understand why shouldn't compiled xine-lib work and why it can not find any video driver.

Just open synaptic, and do a research for xine.

Tell me if this does not work

This is the first step I had done when I moved to Gutsy, but the included xine-lib doesn't play restricted formats (mp3, ...).

Yes, for legal reason, it is not installed by default. but is only several clicks away. you need the libxine1-ffmpeg library

See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats for a more complete overview.

if you are under kubuntu, install the package kubuntu-restricted-extras, and ubuntu-restricted-extras if you are using ubuntu.

Add the medibuntu repository to be able to play microsoft formats and decrypt DVD

Hope it helps

And don't forget, You shoud not have to compile anything for a standard use in ubuntu
