Asked by regmee

I have tried so many threads to solve the Capture Failure problem with internal mic. in my XPS m1330 & ubuntu 7.10
No joy :(

$ cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec

I have modified the modeprobe.d/alsa-base for
ref
3stack
5stack
as mentioned in http://www.mjmwired.net/kernel/Documentation/sound/alsa/ALSA-Configuration.txt
but without any success.

The CAPTURE test in system->pref->sound always fails.

and there is no MICROPHONE option in the edit->preferences in the Sound Recorder application.
Here are some screen shots.

I would be so happy to have this problem solved .. and would call some Skype contact for 1 full hour with Joy ... that day :)

This thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=545409 talks about "How Alsa Driver Installation killed my laptop"
Now I am scared to follow the steps that I can dig in from that thread.

Did you fix this problem on XPS M1330 and Ubuntu ??
Did you use synaptic package mnger to UNINSTALL alsa .. then REINSTALL ? or you downloader ALSA and then did a build.

I followed up the alsa installation given in ---- > https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/16686
I did everything except for the line
"options snd-hda-intel model=acer"

now when I login i get "new restricted drivers in use" message.
but still the mic capture is not working and I have the same situation as previous shown at the beginning of this thread.
What more need I do ??

I had expected with the new alsa installation the "microphone" option would appear in the volume control manager window. but no joy !!!!

I need skype in Ubuntu ... with duplex voice.

:((
