Can't get plugins for firefox in .deb format

Asked by Bob Gray

I'm a complete newbie, not only in Kubuntu but in computers. I don'tknow how to use the command line, much as I would like to, without line-by-line instruction. Where can I get the information I need to set up my system so that I can load the necessary programs (which all seem to be intended for Windows! [I am running Kubuntu feisty on an Intel Pentium D/Pentium 4/Celeron CPU compatible with Intel 05B/05A and o4B/04A processor supporting 64-bit and 32-bit architectures and runs at 3.06Ghz

Thank you for your question.

There are some plugins for firefox that are packaged. You can find them by using your package manager and search for firefox. Then you just need to mark them and apply your changes and they will be installed. After restarting firefox they should be available. Most Kubuntu users use adept as the package manager, but you can certainly also use synaptics or another one.

More about installing software on Kubuntu can be found here: https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/add-applications/C/gnome-app-install.html and here: https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/add-applications/C/advanced.html#synaptic or here:

Another way to install plugins for firefox is the direct download of them inside firefox. If you go to tools->AddOns and then to Get extensions, you can look for extension and download them by clicking on the download link. The plugins are then installed and can be used after the restart of firefox.

I hope this helps.

Thank you both for your help. I had just started to upgrade Feisty to
Gutsy Gibbon when your email arrived and the new material that came with
the upgrade helped me do as you suggested.
Problem solved.
I have to say I'm not yet able to answer very many questions of even a
slightly technical nature, but I will keep on trying and experimenting
until I can be less of a nuisance.
Thanks again,
Bob Gray
