What release of Ubuntu are you using...?

Are your Ubuntu release fully updated...

I never have problems with youtube video.

Thank you

I am using 7.04. Update manager tells me my system is up to date. I can't understand how it has just stopped working. I'm tearing my hair out, I'm no programmer, I' just a 63 yr old user. My grandson told me today that I'm nuts to use ubuntu. Sometimes I think maybe I am nuts.

try installing flashplugin-nonfree package.
Go to System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager
search for flashplugin-nonfree and click on it to install.

Hi Clovis, the plugin you suggest is already installed, I re-installed it but nothing has changed. Every time I go to youtube, google or whatever, it goes to totem which just says " no plugin to play this movie ". I went to the Adobe site and they suggest downloading and running an uninstaller, which I downloaded but was unable to get running. The uninstaller is an exe file which of course Ubuntu won't look at. I was going to download Flash Player 10, but what's the use? I wouldn't be able to install it. I have tried " Wine " but again I can't get that to run anything. I'm at my wits end, maybe my grandson is right and an old geezer like me should go back to Windows.
          Thanks Guys

More info, it seems the problem is with Firefox, I have run both " Opera " and " Epiphany " browsers and they both work fine with Youtube. I tried re-installing firefox through synaptic, no dice, just the same. I don't know if this info is of any use but there you have it.
         Thanks Ian

I think you must play with Firefox content preferences:
Open Firefox
go to menu Edit->Preferences-> Content... File types... [Manage]
double click on the spl and swf extensions and try to change action "Use this plugin" -> Shockwave flash

Hi Elart, no go, I tried what you suggested but still no Flash Player. It seems to have disappeared out of firefox. Strange how the other browsers can still use it though.
          Thanks Ian

Talking about your grandson's OS preference won't help.

Type about:plugins in the address bar and see if flash shows up in the list.

You can make a backup of your Firefox preferences and remove them to see if the problem persists with a new profile.
Just backup and remove the .mozilla folder in your home folder. It is hidden and you have to choose Show Hidden Files to see it.
