Why won't Ubuntu 11.10 won't show a shut down screen

Asked by Robert Nelson

Just upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10 , now it doesn't shut down like previous versions ( you did the 3 finger salute &/o alt, ctrl, delete which would then bring a box with several options). This is a serious error and won't try using Ubuntu 11.10 again till I have some assurance that this problem has been corrected.

I tried "unity --reset" at the command prompt and it didn't work. I got a very long output that is too much for the text area.

Can you help with this problem?
