Ubuntu wont boot on startup, already changed Bios

Asked by Bryant Boyer

I downloaded the Ubuntu client that matched my system. It was the 64-bit desktop version. I burned the ISO file on a cd and the browser opens when I put the cd in. However when I boot my computer it is not booting from the cd, I have tried changing the boot order in BIOS, and a direct boot. Neither has had any affect, windows (XP) still loads like normal. I tried the cd on my friends laptop that I have been working on (it has professional 2000), and it booted correctly. I am not sure if there is a setting in windows somewhere that is necessary for me to change, or if windows(XP) is looking for a specific command line on a cd when it checks for a bootable cd, but I am completely stumped. Any advice would be greatly apreciated, Thanks.

hi !

on some machines, you need to press a key on the very beginning of startup, and then you can choose the device from which you want to boot. On my laptop for instance, it's Escape.

hope it helps

mmm... no idea...

you may try to install a boot loader from windows which lets you boot from a CD.

for instance http://www.osloader.com/download.htm

(I have not tried this software. I just picked one of the first google answers )

good luck
