Changed Graphics card, Display doesn't work properly.

Asked by skillton

Hello.
I was recently having problems with my graphics(very slow and sluggish)
I decided to poke around and ended up changing my Graphics card in one of the Administration Menus.
After restarting my system, the display does work, but everything is distorted and in the wrong place, I can't use my system because I cannot see what I'm doing.
I was just wondering how I get it to boot with a default card driver and default monitor, low resolution.
I am currently in one of my old ubuntu 7.04 installs which I didn't delete. I could try to edit some config files from here, but I'm not sure if I have permission to...

I have to set my Graphics card drivers to default & the monitor to default.
The display is basically like having a resolution my monitor can't support, except it's @ 800x600/60hz.
I don't know how to do that...

Hi Skillton,

you need to edit

/etc/X11/xorg.conf

In the device section, change the driver to "vesa" This is a slow driver, but should let you get back to the settings menu.
