Installer with ide cd drive on 965P chipset+Conroe don't start

I have previously been using Ubuntu... everything working perfectly :)
but, I buy new computer.....
Core 2 Duo E6300, Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Intel P965 , etc....
The boot loader works, although when it tries to load the installer, i get messages along the lines of not recognising the cd...
I have read into this problem and most say that the 965 chipset isn't properly supported and can't load the ide cd drive.
What should I do to install Ubuntu??
