Is there UAC-like polkit prompts?

Asked by Andrei Dziahel

Lots of people here know what I'm talking about. Basically I'd like to allow/disallow programs to do privileged actions via just clicking a "yes"/"no" button, not by entering user password (which is easy to steal).

Is it possible at all/planned to implement/implemented already?

Thanks in advance.

UPD: > Why do you want to make linux another windoze?
I do not. I want linux be more *convenient* and *secure*. Entering my 20-chars password every time I'm updating network settings while debugging them is *annoying*. And does not make it secure.
I've mentioned UAC as closest sample of what I want to see.
> UAC extremely annoying and non productive.
Agree, but I don't want to *port* UAC. I just do not want to enter my password over and over again (rather frequently sometimes).

UAC is a windoze incarnation. Why do you want to make linux another windoze? Linux has its own security schemes, such as granting privileges to read, write, execute. So, in short, linux already has UAC.

UAC extremely annoying and non productive. I always turn it off and I know of many others who do as well. However, microshaft made it so it can't be disabled in windoze 7. Windoze use UAC because it has no other means to prevent programs from being activated by virii or having malware masquerade as legitimate programs.

I've mentioned UAC as closest analogue of what I want to see.

agree, but I don't want to *port* UAC. I just do not want to enter my password over and over again.

it would be more productive to post what problem you are experiencing and seek help to solve this problem instead of staying that this or that should be implemented.

i would suggest that you start a new post and indicated that entering your 20 character password is too cumbersome and ask if there is a workaround to this.

Can you help with this problem?
