gnome wouldn't load after compiz update

I use Ubuntu 7.10, after this morning security update for Compiz gnome won't load anymore, I can only use terminal and no GUI.

Try uninstalling compiz

aptitude remove compiz-core

See if that helps get at least gnome back for you

Then you can try to re-install

hmm... did it remove a bunch of compiz packages and plugins as well?

It did remove all compiz packages.
Yesterday, I gave up and install Ubuntu all over again...
That's soleved the problem.

Ahh.. sorry i couldnt be of more help.
Just a warning though. Be careful with compiz. It has progressed a lot, but it still is unstable at times. You havnt been the first person that this has happened to. If you are going to upgrade it, back things up first and be prepared to do some major fixing if things go wrong.
