Asked by Matt

Last night i decided to run a defrag on my XP which is on my master hdd.(i defraged my master) After finishing i shut down my computer. Today ubuntu 7.04 will not load(its on a secondary hdd), it comes to a text login and says
:

Kinit: No resume image, doing normal boot

I can't get to the desktop and I am very new to ubuntu.

The defrag would not affect the ubuntu installation. It only re-arranges the XP partition.
After that message what happens? Does it just stay there or do you get a command prompt ?

Happened to me too, but I think it's the last security update concerning compiz, I didn't defrag my win xp drive for a long time, I don't use windows so much but now I have to... :(

Try uninstalling compiz-core. If compiz really is the problem that should bring your desktop back.

sudo aptitude remove compiz

You can then try re-installing compiz if you would like. I dont recommend it yet though. Many have been having problems with the new update. Wait for it to stabilize a bit more.
