Hi, do this:
1. When booting up press SHIFT (in systems 9.10 "karmic" or later) or ESC (in systems 9.04 "jaunty" or earlier) at the grub prompt and use the arrow keys to select the rescue mode option and press enter.

2. When the system is loaded will appear to you something like this:
root@ubuntu:~#

Then enter the following command:
ls /home

It will be displayed the name of the users of your computer. Use one of this name.

If you have forgot your password too, run this:
passwd username

where username is the name that you have see before at 2nd step.

Oh, after you have do this, you may reboot the system running this command:
reboot

Another thing: keep attention on what you do, because this procedure gives you a full root shell.

Can you help with this problem?
