can you try sending it files, and see if the ipod picks them up, and even play them?

There is only preliminary support for the iPod Touch in libgpod (the library used by Ubuntu to access your iPod) and it needs some modification of the iPod first to works.

Hope that helps.

Looking back at my answer I noticed that I didn't give you much details about where to go from here.

Since I don't own an iPod Touch myself, I can't even try to make it work under Ubuntu. But if you're not afraid to get your hands dirty, I suggest that you take a look at http://www.gtkpod.org/libgpod.html and try to use the SVN version of libgpod.

I just find out that version 0.6.0 of the libgpod library as been released about 2 weeks ago. This is the first official version to support the iPod Touch and the new generation of iPod Nano (those with video capability).

It is not yet available as a package in the standard repositories but it's a step closer for those who don't want to install it manually.

Their is hope.

I just saw this on a bug report discussion:

"Apparently libgpod 0.6 depends on sgutils that are in universe and due to the fact that libgpod is on main it is not possible to upgrade the repository version to the latest."

The good thing is that the updated library will be included into the next release of Ubuntu (8.04).

Hi,

I've successfully used this tutorial in order to synchronize music:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PortableDevices/iPhone

Specifically with Amarok, it works pretty good. But I haven't been able of synch photos or video. Hope it's supported soon.

Hope it helps,

Vincente, I got stuck on that one when it asked for the username. I signed up with virtualbox website and have my user name, but it kept saying unknown user.

Can you help with this problem?
