Wrong video-aspect on widescreens

Asked by oschwa2s

Hi!
I've got two PCs with widescreen monitors (1650x1050 and 1280x768). On both PCs I used Gutsy's new screen configuration tool and I enabled "widescreen" option as well as the commercial nvidia driver.
When starting video playback using vlc, xine, mplayer or Totem (with gstreamer) I always got wrong aspect ratio - like 4:3 videos were stretched to fit the screen.
Recently I discovered the following option for the commercial nvidia driver which fixed the problem:
#####
Section "Device"
        Boardname "nv"
        ...
>>> Option "FlatPanelProperties" "Scaling = aspect-scaled" <<<
EndSection
#####

I believe that this option should be set by the configuration tool automatically to increase usability.

Bye, oschwa2s

Thanks for the question.

I have created a bug report for it. You may get further questions from the triage team. It would be helpful if you could answer them if at all possible.

Thanks
